Things that Enrich Life
First published in Sep 2022 on LI. Updated July 2026.
Things that will truly enrich your life:
-
Wake up before sunrise and step out.
-
Exercise. Strength training; walk or run, if nothing.
-
Take Cold showers. 1-2 min at least. Even during Winters
-
Measure what you eat. Best discipline.
-
Practise Meditation. 15 mins before sleep in bed.
-
Fall in Love with yourself.
-
Fall in Love with someone.
-
Fall out of Love.
-
Wake up with a responsibility of caring for some life.
-
Experience Death of a loved one. Sitting next to them when they are about to die.
-
Buy food for someone who doesn’t have means to buy.
-
See a random stranger crying.
-
Walk with yourself in complete solitude.
-
Travel a lot. More nondescript places, less exotic ones.
-
Experience grief and trauma.
-
Experience bankruptcy. Witness Poverty.
-
Choose people who care about how their actions make you feel. Everyone will hurt you at some point; those who are right for you won’t make that hurt hurtful.
-
Interact with a toddler. Hold hand of an old person.
-
Get cheated on. Face rejections.
-
Self Respect over Empathy towards others. People won’t change to value you and stand by you, just because you did right with them. Integrity is a rarity. Most don’t have it.
-
Have Regrets.
-
Question every narrative.
-
Hug someone tightly.
-
Cry alone. Cry in front of everyone.
-
Never look upto anybody. Never look down upon anybody.
-
Look for three things in anyone: Integrity, Intelligence and Ingenuity. However if the first is missing, don’t bother about the remaining two.
-
Learn to cook.
-
Character over Reputation. Character is what you truly are. Reputation is what you want others to know who you are.
-
Learn to sit back and observe. Not everything needs a reaction.
-
Allow people to do what they want to do. If they care, they will try. If they don’t, they will walk away. Actions always speak louder than words. Let them act.
-
Listen when someone wants you to, Talk when You need you to. Speak up, when others need you to.
-
Ask Why, Answer Why Not!
-
Spend some time in a different country than yours.
-
No smoke. No alcohol.
-
Visit a war torn country.
-
Check on someone you care.
-
Don’t try to save someone who doesn’t want to be saved. Except when they are about to take away their life.
-
Read more, Watch less
-
Never expect to get what you give.
-
“Leap, and the Net will appear”
-
Develop a Hobby.
-
If have to, Hustle “18 hours” for yourself, not for others.
-
Step out in Real Life, Step out of Digital Life.
-
Take photographs.
-
Love and care for someone deeply and unconditionally.
-
Be smarter about who has access to you. Being a good person doesn’t mean life will be good to you back.
-
Read old Poetry sometimes.
-
Call Mom more often.
-
Tease someone you love. Tease often!
-
Have fun with people. Don’t make fun of them.
-
Write that Letter to someone who mattered. Post it. Don’t Email.
-
Send flowers. When they are alive, rather than when they are gone.
-
Pick up that phone and call them. Allow someone to be able to call you. Don’t let the moment pass. Life slips by and then…it’s over.
-
Watch an animal play with their baby.
-
Allow an old person to hold your arm. Experience them hold it tighter with every moment.
-
Seek Experiences with People, not Happiness. Searching Happiness in others will only make you feel lonely.
-
Silence is also a Language. The sooner you learn it, the better.
-
Don’t reason your way through human emotions. Feelings aren’t puzzles to be solved.
-
Get hurt without being hurtful.
-
Stop asking why did they do this to me. Start asking what can I do now.
-
Realize People are like Experiences. And just like every experience, they will come and go!
-
Don’t derive your value from entities. When the entity is gone, you will lose your identity.
-
Build your Character before you seek Attention.
-
Have Ego in Life. Knowing to have Ego is Knowledge. Choosing not to value it over People who care is Wisdom.
-
Agency over Intelligence. Effort creates opportunities.
-
Develop a Taste for Music, Writing or Reading. Peace often lives there.
-
End things on a high with someone, no matter how bitter the end. One day they will be gone, and the regret that comes after someone’s Death lingers for a very long time.
-
Love people like they are forever. Hold them like they are seasons.
-
Don’t save your Love for another day. Say the words you keep inside. Hold on to a little longer than your pride.
-
Get drenched in rain.
